As a student at JGU Mainz, you have the opportunity to take various courses in psychology and law and receive certification to highlight your specialisation in your curriculum vitae. The ZIF certificate is awarded in interdisciplinary collaboration between psychology, law and forensic psychiatry.
The ZIF (Centre for Interdisciplinary Forensics) is responsible for awarding and recognising the certificate. The currently valid regulations for awarding the certificate can be found on the ZIF website:
In the discontinued M.Sc. Psychology programmes with an application-oriented focus, students could also obtain the (more comprehensive) certificate in ‘Psychology and Law’. This included the ZIF certificate as well as the legal psychology courses included in the Master’s programme. Students who did NOT obtain their Bachelor’s degree in Mainz were also required to attend the lecture on legal psychology (or provide evidence of equivalent courses).
The master’s degree with a focus on legal psychology is sufficient in itself to prove professional competence and to be exempted from 50% of the theoretical content as part of further training to become a specialist psychologist in legal psychology.
